Soccer Updates saw Celtic F.C not only beaten 3-0 but totally stuffed by Braga who are not exactly the biggest team in Portugal. But the worst thing about this Celtic performance for soccer updates was the fact that Celtic didn’t get one shot on target, a total disgrace.
In the Friendly matches soccer updates saw Rangers draw 0-0 so it looks like the two Glasgow clubs need to train their forwards better before the season starts. A match that interested soccer updates was the Nottingham Forest vs Lyon match as we fancy Lyon to do well this year and they hammered Forest 3-1 but it was also nice to see West Ham winning their friendly.

Poor Irish League club Cliftonville got hammered 3-0 in the Europa Cup but the good news for you Irish League fans is that soccer updates will be covering the Irish League on a weekly basis.
Nice to see Arsenal having a nice 4-0 win and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal will be challenging for the Premier League Title next season. Aston Villa also grabbed a 2-1 with Martin O’Neill saying that James Milner will be staying with Aston Villa and not going to Manchester City but we shall see.
Soccer Updates will continue to keep you updated with all the friendly soccer results.
Brian Clough
We at Soccer Updates have decided we are going to write about all those past football legends like George Best, Cantona, Brian Clough, Bill Shankly and so many other football legends that have given us so many golden memories over the years. My personal all time favourite football legend is for me the best manager ever and that is old big head himself, the famous great Brian Clough.
Brian Clough was born on 21 March 1935 and died on 20th September 2004 and with his death a void was left because Brian Clough wasn’t just a great manager, he made us laugh, he was an entertainer but with Peter Taylor he was even more, he was a genius and a Legend of Football, he was Brian Clough. Old big head as Brian Clough was known was an amazing forward as well scoring 197 goals for Middlesbrough in only 213 matches and 54 goals in 61 matches for Sunderland and how Brian Clough would let his players know those stats for years to come.
Brian Clough had to retire with a serious leg injury and became the youngest manager at Hartlepool but it was in 1967 that he and Peter Taylor would weave their magic at Derby County. Jeeeez who else but Brian Clough and Peter Taylor would think of bringing in an over the hill Dave Mackay in as Captain and Willie Carlin to join the likes of O’Hare, McGovern, Hector, McFarland and Hinton.
Brian Clough and Taylor took Derby County up into the top division and they finished 4th in their first season back but more was to come. In 1971/72 Derby County fought it out with Liverpool and Leeds for the Title and Derby beat Liverpool to go top but all Leeds had to do was draw at Wolves to win the Title but they lost and Brian Clough and Derby County were League Champions, the magician had performed his first miracle, watch below at how great that Derby County team were under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor in Brians own words.
Being Brian Clough he fell out with the Derby County board and he and Peter Taylor handed in their resignations and to Brians disbelief they accepted it. He went on to manage Brighton and then of course the infamous 44 days at Leeds United but Brian Clough had the last laugh at Leeds United when he and Peter Taylor joined forces again at lowly Nottingham Forest and my God Brian yet again turned a small club into a team of world beaters.
Brian Clough guided Nottingham Forest to the League Title in 1977/78 and to two European Cup wins in 79 and 80, an amazing feat that no English Manager has ever surpassed or equalled not even the almight Fergie. Brian Clough OBE, it should have been Sir Brian Clough because I know no other manager that could have won 3 Titles with such ordinary clubs, no offence to Derby County or Nottingham Forest.
Brian Clough along with Peter Taylor transformed players like John Robertson and then made Trevor Francis the first English 1 Million pounds signing but that was rewarded with a sweet header in the European Cup Final, crossed in my none other than that magical winger Robertson. Forest in those years were a joy to watch, they went 42 matches unbeaten and that record was only just recently beaten by Arsenal. Watch below at a few of the great moments of that Nottingham Forest team that Brian Clough and Peter Taylor created.
Peter Shilton was of course another of the great Brian Clough and Taylor signings and although a lot of people say Brian Clough ruled his players with an iron fist with his discipline style most of his players loved him as was shown when the Derby County players went on strike when he left. Brian Cloughs downfall was his pride and his drinking and Brian Clough has admitted he made a huge mistake resigning at Derby County, my guess is under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor Derby County and not Liverpool would have dominated the 70’s but hey just look at the honours Brian Clough has won as a manager.

In April 2009 Derby County announced it will be building a statue at Pride Park of both Brian Clough and Peter Taylor and it will be unveiled in August 2010, there are already statues of Brian Clough at Middlesbrough and Nottingham. To be honest there is so much more I could write about this remarkable genius and true football legend but I will end it by saying thank you Cloughie for the memories, to me you always will be the Greatest
Yes even greater than Ali and every time I hear your name I will smile and recall the golden days of the game that you made beautiful. I will end this blog with Brian Clough making us laugh as only he could, R.I.P you Crazy Diamond, your memory lives on forever.
Spain 1 vs Holland 0 ( After Extra Time )
Soccer updates knew that this match would be close especially with the great records of both these clubs and to be honest soccer updates fancied the score to be 0-0 after the 90 minutes and although Spain were the better side the Dutch had the best chances but Robben wasted them both. Into extra time it looked like it was going to penalties until Iniesta slipped past the Holland defence and rifled a shot in to make Spain the World Cup Winners of 2010.
The match was spoilt a bit by Howard Webb producing 14 cards and to be honest if Webb had have been tougher at least 5 people would have been sent off. So soccer updates see the mighty Spain lift the World Cup as well as the European Championships and this Spain team containing 7 players from the mighty Barcelona could go on to retain that trophy in 2012. Although the World Cup 2010 will be seen by many as a boring World Cup we have to applaude Spain for the football they produced, they are indeed worthy winners of the World Cup Trophy.
Spain so deserve to celebrate winning the World Cup 2010.
Highlights of the mighty Spain, Champions of the World 2010. Soccer Updates salutes you !
Germany 3 vs Uruguay 2
Soccer Updates really doesn’t want to be unkind but who really cares who finishes 3rd in the World Cup, like do you remember who finished 3rd in the last World Cup, I don’t and to be honest who cares.
Although we at soccer updates have to say this Germany vs Uruguay match was damn exciting and one of the best matches in this boring World Cup 2010. Muller put Germany into the lead in the 19th minute but in the 28th minute Cavani made it 1-1 and thats how it finished at half-time.
Soccer updates watched as Diego Forlan scored yet again in this World Cup to make it 2-1 to Uruguay but it was shortlived as Jansen made it 2-2 in the 57th minute. Germany attacked and attacked but it looked like it was going to end a draw until Khedira put Germany 3-2 up in the 82nd minute and with the last free kick of the match Diego Forlan hit the bar, for soccer updates Diego Forlan was the player of this World Cup.
So Germany finish 3rd but who will be the winner of the World Cup 2010, Spain or Holland, join us at soccer updates tomorrow night to find out.
Germany 0 vs Spain 1
Soccer Updates were really looking forward to this Germany vs Spain semi-final and in the first 5 minutes David Villa almost scored. But then the match died off a bit although Spain had most of the possession with Pedro starting the match instead of Torres making it 7 Barcelona players in the Spain team. Minutes before the end Germany were denied a certain penalty when Ramos committed a foul in the box but it ended 0-0 at half-time.
David Villa gets in the first shot of the second half but it just goes past the post but soccer updates can see this ending in a 0-0 stalemate and goes to extra time. But in 57th minute Pedro of Spain smacks a rebound and almost scores, Pedro is for sure more dangerous than Torres.
Soccer updates sees the Germany vs Spain match go into the last 30 minutes as Klose hits a half chance over the bar. But as the match goes on Spain look more likely to score but can Germany sneak a goal. And as I say that Germany have their best spell of football and almost score.
We must say that soccer updates love the Germany slick passing in the midfield but once they reach the Spanish box they tend to lack imagination. But in the 72nd minute leaping like a salmon Puyol of Barcelona puts a bullet header into the net, 1-0 to Spain and they deserve the lead but can they hold on for the last 18 minutes to face Holland into the World Cup Final 2010.
Soccer updates sees Torres come on for David Villa and as the last 9 minutes tick by Spain hold on to win 1-0 and will play Holland in the World Cup Final on July 11th. Will Spain now follow up their 2008 European Championship win with the World Cup 2010, bookmark soccer updates for all the latest soccer news from around the world.
Holland 3 vs Uruguay 2
Soccer Updates saw the Holland of 2010 surpass the Holland of 1978 by reaching the World Cup Final 2010 with a 3-2 win over Uruguay and to be honest the 3-2 scores flatters Uruguay as there was only ever going to be one winner of this match and that was Holland.
Bronckhorst put Holland ahead in the 18th minute with a rocket shot from 40 yards. As half-time approached soccer updates expected Holland to extend their lead until Diego Forlan again showed a bit of magic in the 41st minute to make it 1-1 at half-time.
But in the second half it was all Holland and W. Sneijder put them 2-1 ahead again in the 70rd minute and as Uruguay pressed for a goal Robben put them 3-1 ahead in the 73rd minute and that was game over. Uruguay scored through Pereira in added time but as the whistle blew soccer updates cheered Holland as worthy winners and they now play the winner of Germany vs Spain on Sunday 11th July.

Spain 1 vs Paraguay 0
Soccer Updates expected Spain to win this and were a bit let down by the Spanish performance in the first half. Torres yet again started but he still looks unfit and not as sharp as the Torres we have watched at Liverpool. In a slow first half the only highlight was a great pass that split the Spain defence for Paraguay to score only for it to be ruled offside.
Spain have never won a Quarter-Final in a World Cup and they need to up their act in the second half to win this one or like Brazil and Argentina they will be on a flight home. But in the 55th minute Fabregas comes on for the unfit Torres and two minutes later its a penalty to Paraguay. Its saved by the Spain goalkeeper and it remains 0-0, are Spain destined to win.
Omg straight from that penalty miss David Villa breaks away and is brought down in the box and its now a penalty to Spain. Alonso steps up in the 60th minute and scores but the referee blows for him to take it again and he does and this time he misses as the keeper saves it, this match is just unreal, soccer updates cant believe it.
75 minutes gone and for me this match is going to extra time, except for the penalties its been a dull affair. But in the 82nd minute a great pass to Pedro who shoots but hits the post, it rebounds to David Villa who scores with a shot in off the post. The whistle goes and Spain win 1-0 and play Germany in the semi-final, soccer updates sees Spain break their Quarter-Finals jink.
Argentina 0 vs Germany 4
Soccer Updates have so been waiting on this match of two teams who have a rivalry with each other going way back to 1966 but who will win today, the young Germans or Maradonas team of stars, we are hoping Argentina win!
Omg with only 2 and a half minutes gone a nice cross is passed into the Argentina box and up rose Mueller to make it 1-0 to Germany, what an amazing start to this match. 15 minutes pass and the game has settled into a pattern but this young German side are looking dangerous.
In the 23rd minute Mueller went right through the Argentina box, laid it off to Klose who only had the keeper to beat but he hit it high over the bar, soccer updates thinks he might regret that miss. This German side are well organised and as the half-time whistle blows Maradona is going to have to boost Argentina for the second half.
Soccer updates saw the Germans come out for the seconf half all guns blazing and they made it 3-0 in the 68th minute with a goal from Klose and with just 2 minutes left Germany got a breakway and Klose slid it past the keeper to make it 4-0 to many and become joint leading scorer of ths World Cup, where oh where did the Argentina flair vanish too. So Germany now play the winners of Spain and Paraquay in the semi-finals.
