Soccer updates knew that this match would be close especially with the great records of both these clubs and to be honest soccer updates fancied the score to be 0-0 after the 90 minutes and although Spain were the better side the Dutch had the best chances but Robben wasted them both. Soccer Updates really doesn’t want to be unkind but who really cares who finishes 3rd in the World Cup, like do you remember who finished 3rd in the last World Cup, I don’t and to be honest who cares.

Although we at soccer updates have to say this Germany vs Uruguay match was damn exciting and one of the best matches in this boring World Cup 2010. Muller put Germany into the lead in the 19th minute but in the 28th minute Cavani made it 1-1 and thats how it finished at half-time.

Soccer updates watched as Diego Forlan scored yet again in this World Cup to make it 2-1 to Uruguay but it was shortlived as Jansen made it 2-2 in the 57th minute. Germany attacked and attacked but it looked like it was going to end a draw until Khedira put Germany 3-2 up in the 82nd minute and with the last free kick of the match Diego Forlan hit the bar, for soccer updates Diego Forlan was the player of this World Cup.

Soccer Updates were really looking forward to this Germany vs Spain semi-final and in the first 5 minutes David Villa almost scored. But then the match died off a bit although Spain had most of the possession with Pedro starting the match instead of Torres making it 7 Barcelona players in the Spain team. Minutes before the end Germany were denied a certain penalty when Ramos committed a foul in the box but it ended 0-0 at half-time.

David Villa gets in the first shot of the second half but it just goes past the post but soccer updates can see this ending in a 0-0 stalemate and goes to extra time. But in 57th minute Pedro of Spain smacks a rebound and almost scores, Pedro is for sure more dangerous than Torres.

Soccer Updates saw the Holland of 2010 surpass the Holland of 1978 by reaching the World Cup Final 2010 with a 3-2 win over Uruguay and to be honest the 3-2 scores flatters Uruguay as there was only ever going to be one winner of this match and that was Holland.

Omg straight from that penalty miss David Villa breaks away and is brought down in the box and its now a penalty to Spain. Alonso steps up in the 60th minute and scores but the referee blows for him to take it again and he does and this time he misses as the keeper saves it, this match is just unreal, soccer updates cant believe it.

75 minutes gone and for me this match is going to extra time, except for the penalties its been a dull affair. But in the 82nd minute a great pass to Pedro who shoots but hits the post, it rebounds to David Villa who scores with a shot in off the post. Omg with only 2 and a half minutes gone a nice cross is passed into the Argentina box and up rose Mueller to make it 1-0 to Germany, what an amazing start to this match. 15 minutes pass and the game has settled into a pattern but this young German side are looking dangerous.

In the 23rd minute Mueller went right through the Argentina box, laid it off to Klose who only had the keeper to beat but he hit it high over the bar, soccer updates thinks he might regret that miss. This German side are well organised and as the half-time whistle blows Maradona is going to have to boost Argentina for the second half.

Soccer updates saw the Germans come out for the seconf half all guns blazing and they made it 3-0 in the 68th minute with a goal from Klose and with just 2 minutes left Germany got a breakway and Klose slid it past the keeper to make it 4-0 to many and become joint leading scorer of ths World Cup, where oh where did the Argentina flair vanish too. So Germany now play the winners of Spain and Paraquay in the semi-finals.

Soccer Updates knows both these teams got a boost with the news that Holland put Brazil out of the World Cup and they both know a win tonight would put them into a semi-final against Holland with the chance of a place in the World Cup Final itself.

The first half saw Uruguay start well but in the last 20 minutes of the first half it was Ghana that came attacking with Boateng having a few chances on goal and just when it looked like being 0-0 at half-time Muntari in the 2nd minute of added on time hit a thunder shot into the net for Ghana as the nation of Africa exploded in celebrations, but soccer updates asks  can Ghana hold on to that 1-0 lead?

The 2nd half starts and as expected soccer updates see Uruguay come at Ghana but the attacks are all stopped before Uruguay even reach the penalty area. Until the 54th minute when Uruguay get a free kick about 20 yards out, up steps the man himself Diego Forlan who bends a lovely 20 yard free kick into the net to make it 1-1, game on !

Will Soccer updates see another penalty shootout or will Uruguay get that second goal in normal time. Time is passing and with only 10 minutes left it looks like this game is going to extra time.  And in the last 10 minutes we have no clear shots on goal and it finishes 1-1 after 90 minutes, we go to extra time and possibly penalties.

Soccer Updates like everyone else thought that Brazil would just brush Holland aside and go all the way to the World Cup Final. It certainly looked that way when Robinho slipped the ball in the net in the 10th minute to put Brazil 1-0 up and looking good for a semi-final place.

Holland however had no intention of giving up and a Brazil error by the goalkeeper from a Sneijder cross saw Melo head it into his own goal in the 58th minute to make it 1-1. Soccer updates were shocked but the Dutch got confidence from this and a lovely cross saw Kuyt flick it back with his head for Sneijder to head Holland 2-1 up in the 68th minute.

Brazil pushed forward but got Melo sent off in the 73rd minute for a nasty bit of stamping. Brazil I am afraid to say can be a bit rough when things aren’t going there way and the match ended with Holland winning 2-1 and waiting on the winner of Uruguay and Ghana in the semi-final, yet again we are seeing a World Cup full of surprises, who will win this World Cup, don’t forget we at soccer updates said Argentina from day one, we think that is looking a good shout !!

Soccer Updates has been looking forward to this match and we have to say firstly that we love the white Portugal top with the 2 stripes down it but who will win between Ronaldo and Villa and will Torres find his scoring boots.

In the first 20 minutes soccer updates watched as Spain had 68% of the possession but no real chances were made and it remained 0-0.  The rest of the half continued in the same vain with Spain dominating but in all honesty as the half-time whistle blew neither goalkeeper had a real save to make.

Soccer updates watched both Spain and Portugal play a game of cat and mouse in the first ten minutes of the second half as you got the feeling both teams were more scared of getting beat than winning the match.

On the hour mark soccer updates sees Torres taken off yet again for Llorente and within a minute almost scores right away with a diving header. Spain look dangerous now and in the 62nd minute  David Villa runs into the box and shoots, the keeper can’t hold it and Villa following up roofs it into the net to make it 1-0 for Spain, the substitution of Llorente has made a difference.

Spain are now starting to play free flowing football and in the 69th minute Ramos ghosts past the Portugal defence to fire a shot just inches past the post. Poor Ronaldo is getting lonely all alone in the Spain half as Ramos, Llorente and Villa are cutting through the Potugal defence, Llorente is one hell of a good player and has been more of a danger than Torres.

80 minutes gone and soccer updates are sure that Spain will progress and play Paraguay in the Quarter-Finals, the Spanish are starting to find their form at last. Spain however fail to get that second goal but the David Villa goal is enough to put the Spanish into the last 8 of the World Cup.

Soccer Updates watched the Paraguay vs Japan match to see if Paraguay could become the 4th South American team to qualify for the Quarter-Finals. After about 80 minutes I have to say the whole soccer updates team fell asleep and it was only when  somebody shook me and said ” It’s gone to penalties” that I went I hope Japan win and I sat back with my beer and watched as Paraguay beat Japan 5-3 on penalties with Y. Komano being the poor bugger to miss the penalty for Japan but the penalties are just a matter of luck.

So soccer updates sees Paraguay reach the Quarter-Finals for the first time in their history but the bad thing is they come up against the winners of the Spain vs Portugal and I don’t fancy Paraguays chances against the winner of that match.
