Germany 3 vs Uruguay 2
Soccer Updates really doesn’t want to be unkind but who really cares who finishes 3rd in the World Cup, like do you remember who finished 3rd in the last World Cup, I don’t and to be honest who cares.
Although we at soccer updates have to say this Germany vs Uruguay match was damn exciting and one of the best matches in this boring World Cup 2010. Muller put Germany into the lead in the 19th minute but in the 28th minute Cavani made it 1-1 and thats how it finished at half-time.
Soccer updates watched as Diego Forlan scored yet again in this World Cup to make it 2-1 to Uruguay but it was shortlived as Jansen made it 2-2 in the 57th minute. Germany attacked and attacked but it looked like it was going to end a draw until Khedira put Germany 3-2 up in the 82nd minute and with the last free kick of the match Diego Forlan hit the bar, for soccer updates Diego Forlan was the player of this World Cup.
So Germany finish 3rd but who will be the winner of the World Cup 2010, Spain or Holland, join us at soccer updates tomorrow night to find out.
World Cup 2010 Updates – Group C Qualifiers
| France | 1 – 2 | South Africa |
| Mexico | 0 – 1 | Uruguay |
Today saw the final 2 matches in Group A and soccer updates just had a funny feeling that France would be spending the rest of June on a bus tour around Paris. But who was going to win Group A and who was going to qualify, we all thought Uruguay and Mexico but that was until South Africa went 2-0 up against France with goals from B. Khumalo in the 20th minute and K. Mphela in the 37th minute. Y. Gourcuff got sent off in the 26th minute and when Uruguay went 1-0 up against Mexico with a 43rd minute goal from L. Suarez the South African crowd began to think that just maybe if they could score and Uruguay could score another they would get a miracle and get into the last 16, alas a French goal in the 70th minute by F. Malouda spoilt that dream, typical French spoiling things.
So soccer updates can tell you that Uruguay and Mexico have qualified from Group A and it’s looking very likely that Mexico will be playing Argentina in a repeat of the knockout stage 4 years ago when Argentina beat Mexico. But bad luck on South Africa and as my Old Gran used to say watch out because what goes around comes around and for the cheating French it did, does soccer updates feel sorry for France, hell no. !!
| Group A | P | W | D | L | F | A | GD | Pts | |

World Cup 2010 Updates 20thJune – Soccer Updates
| Slovakia | 0 – 2 | Paraguay |
| Italy | 1 – 1 | New Zealand |
| Brazil | 3 – 1 | Ivory Coast |
Soccer Updates is saying right now a South American team will win the World Cup 2010 as we have loved the free flowing soccer of the South Americans. Paraguay looked a really good side today and deserved their 2-0 win with goals from E. Vera in the 27th minute and C. Riveros four minutes from time in the 86th minute. Paraguay now lead the table on 4 points and it’s between them and Italy as to who tops this Group, soccer updates thinks this classy Paraguay side will win the Group.
Oh dear oh dear is all soccer updates can say as Italy yet again stutter, this time drawing 1-1 with New Zealand although I still expect Italy renowned as slow starters to qualify for the last 16. S. Smeltz put New Zealand ahead in the 7th minute but you always expected Italy to come back and they did in the 29th minute with a penalty from V. Iaquinta. Reading the stats soccer updates sees 7 shots on target for Italy compared to just the one on target for New Zealand which resulted in their goal, so don’t count Italy out of the World Cup yet, they are the masters of the slow start.
In the last match of the day soccer updates watched the pure skill of Brazil beat a dirty Ivory Coast side 3-1 and we also watched the farce of Kaka being sent off for a foul that he didn’t commit, I swear we at soccer updates hate players that dive and pretend they are fouled, they should be banned. Brazil were just a different class as L. Fabiano scored in the 25th and 51st minutes. His first goal was a total gem of a goal as he weaved into the penalty area and rifled a shot into the roof of the net. In the 62nd minute Kaka ran down the wing, passed a brilliant ball right across the box for Elano to stroke in to make it 3-0. A few minutes later Elano was chopped down and had to be stretchered off and soccer updates hopes he will be fit for the later stages of the World Cup. D. Drogba flicked in a nice header in the 79th minute to make it 3-1 but tonight was all about the magic of a great Brazil team which was spoiled by a stupid sending off decision of Kaka, but for soccer updates this Brazil side are looking really classy and possible World Cup Winners.
World Cup Updates 2010 14th June – Soccer Updates
| Japan | 1 – 0 | Cameroon |
| Holland | 2 – 0 | Denmark |
| Italy | 1 – 1 | Paraguay |
Soccer Updates started the day with Japan beating Cameroon 1-0 with a goal from K. Honda in the 39th minute, jeeez he sounds more like a car than a world cup player.
Onto the Holland vs Denmark game and the dutch coasted it with a 2-0 win with an own goal from D. Agger in the 46th minute when he glanced a nice header into his own net. Soccer Updates knew it wouldn’t be long before Holland got another and just before the end in the 85th minute D. Kuyt added the second. Soccer Updates thinks this Holland side with class players like Van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Mark van Bommel will go far in the World Cup 2010.
In the days final match Italy played Paraquay and went 1-0 down to the South American side with a goal by A. Alcaraz in the 39th minute. It was a dour 1st half and try as they might Italy went in 1-0 down at half-time. In a boring second half it looked like the Italians would never score until D.D. Rossi popped up to make it 1-1 after 63 minutes and that’s how it finished. Soccer Updates won’t rule Italy out as they are famous for their slow starts but will the World Cup holders hold on to their crown, somehow Soccer Updates doesn’t think so.
World Cup 2010 Updates 12th June – Soccer Updates
England 1 vs U.S.A 1
Argentina 1 vs Nigeria 0
Korea 2 vs Greece 0
Soccer Updates has to say the England draw came as no surprise to us because this has to be the worst England team in World Cup history. England take a 3rd minute lead by a Stevie Gerrard goal only for Green to let in a goal a 10 year old would have scored. But for me the inlusion of Heskey in the squad was always a major mistake, like is it just me or can’t anyone else see that Heskey is the worst forward in the world. Straight through, only the keeper to beat and as ever that aging donkey Heskey misses yet again. Poor old Green will get some abuse but for me Heskey should be on the first plane home, England to win the World Cup, yer havin a laugh.
Meanwhile Soccer Updates tip for the World Cup had a nice little 1-0 win that could have been 4-0 if Messi had taken his chances. Heinz the former Manchester United player scored a bullet header in the 6th minute and from then you expected Argentina to stroll it and they should have. Why Maradonna waited until 70 minutes before he brought Inter Milans star forward is beyond me but Soccer Updates were still impressed by this free flowing Argentina display.
In the early kick off Korea beat Greece 2-0, now that was a surprise, but not as big as a surprise as that Richard Green blunder, do bookmark Soccer Updates for all the World Cup 2010 Updates.
South Africa 1 vs Mexico 1 – World Cup 2010 Results
Soccer Updates is proud to tell you that the host nation held Mexico to a 1-1 draw in what was a dull game. You usually find that the first game in the World Cup ends in a draw as both teams are a little afraid of losing that all importanr first match. The game was a dull 0-0 at halftime but Mexico were the better side and could have put a few chances away, they did actually score a goal but it was just offside.
In the second half S. Tshabalala gave South Africa a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute and Soccer Updates thought the host nation would be dancing in the streets of South Africa tonight but R. Marquez scored the equaliser in the 79th minute and that is how the match finished.
Shots on Target : South Africa 4 Mexico 5
Possession : South Africa 42% Mexico 58%
Corner Kicks : South Africa 4 Mexico 5
Offsides : South Africa 5 Mexico 6
Fouls : South Africa 16 Mexico 12
Yellow Cards : South Africa 2 Mexico 2
Red Cards : South Africa 0 Mexico 0
The above stats show that Mexico had a slight edge but in fairness South Africa deserved the 1-1 draw, do bookmark Soccer Updates for all the latest on the World Cup.
